Essay Prompt #12
-Even though you are writing about a personal experience in narrative or story form, adhere to the standard essay format.
-Sometimes when we write about ourselves or our life experiences it’s easy to forget that our readers weren’t there. Be sure to explain anything that a reader might not understand, give background information when needed, and acquaint your readers with any people who are part of the story. You can accomplish these things with simple phrases such as “my sister, Amelia.”
-Zero in a specific part of the experience and tell it in detail. Preferably this will be the part that was the most fun or memorable. Otherwise, your essay may become more like a novel if you try to tell everything.
-Avoid rambling and rabbit trails that don’t really add to the story. Use only the details that are necessary to demonstrate the point that you had a fun time.
